Brent de l’Art is a spectacular complex of gorges and canyons deeply carved into the rock by the Ardo stream, from which it takes its name (the expression “Brent de l’Art” actually refers to the “flooding of the Ardo stream”). This geological wonder is located in Valbelluna, in the municipality of Borgo Valbelluna (hamlet of Sant’Antonio Tortal), in the province of Belluno.
Water and debris erosion, which began after the last ice age and continues to this day, has shaped gorges reaching several dozen meters in depth.
The most distinctive feature is the color of the rock, which varies from red to gray-green, due to the presence of Scaglia Rossa layers dating back to the Cretaceous period, making the landscape extremely evocative and popular among hikers.
The site is accessible via a loop trail, which is usually 4–5 km long and takes approximately 1.5–2.5 hours to walk; it is classified as Moderate difficulty due to some steep sections that require proper hiking boots.
The trail allows you to observe the gorge from a panoramic viewpoint or reach its bottom, making it an unmissable destination for nature and geology enthusiasts.
